Set forth below are brief biographical descriptions of the
Directors.
Daniel Eldon Crawford, born on June 10, 1939, has served
as Chairman of the Board of Directors since February 1999
and as a member of the Board since September 1998. He serves
as President and CEO of WorldCom Latin America, for WorldCom.
Also, he has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors
of Embratel since March 1999. Since 1994 he has served as
Chief Operating Officer of Avantel, S.A., a joint venture
of WorldCom and Grupo Financiero Banamex-Accival which competes
in the Mexican long-distance marketplace. Previously, he held
a number of positions at MCI, including President of the Network
Services Division and President of MCI's Southwest Division.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering
from the University of Nebraska and a master's degree in electrical
engineering from New York University.
John Thomas Stupka, born on December 24, 1949, has
served as a member of the Board of Directors since March 2000.
He serves as President of WorldCom Wireless Solutions. He
came to WorldCom as a result of its merger with SkyTel Communications,
where he served as President and CEO since August 1996. He
has 27 years of telecommunications experience in both wired
and wireless segments. Prior to SkyTel Communications, he
served in a variety of capacities at SBC Communications from
1974 until 1996, culminating as Senior Vice President of Strategic
Planning for SBC, reporting to the SBC Chairman. Mr. Stupka
holds a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering
from the University of Oklahoma and attended the Bell Advanced
Management Program at the University of Illinois.
Luis Fernando Motta Rodrigues, born on June 3, 1962,
has served as a member of the Board of Directors since August
1998. In addition, he has served as President of MCI do Brasil,
MCI Solutions Ltda. ("MCI") and Startel Participações
Ltda. He has also served as member of the Board of Directors
of Embratel since August 1998. Before working for MCI, he
served in various positions in the operational and commercial
areas of Embratel's international office. He holds a degree
in telecommunications engineering from the Fluminense Federal
University, Niteroi, RJ.
Dílio Sérgio Penedo, born on July 5,
1942, has served as a member of the Board of Directors since
August 1998. He served as General Area Manager for South America
at SAFT, a company of the Alcatel Alsthom Group; President
of Nife - Argentina; Superintendent Director of Indesul -
Saft Equipamentos Eletronicos; and Superintendent Director
of Nife Brasil-Sistemas Elétricos. In addition, he
has served as President of Embratel since February 1995. He
holds a degree in electrical engineering from Pontifical Catholic
University of Rio de Janeiro.
Antonio Carlos Tettamanzy, born on February 27, 1942,
has served as a member of the Board of Directors since June
1999. He started his career in the Embratel Legal department.
He later served as juridical assistant reporting directly
to the President of Embratel for 11 years. He was a member
of the Legal Committee of INTELSAT in 1985, reelected in 1987
and 1992. He was also a member of the Aeroespacial Legal Committee
of the Intereamerican Bar Association. He was the representative
of the Infra-Structure Ministry in 1990 during the GATT negotiations
in Geneva. He holds a law degree from the Pontifical Catholic
University of Rio de Janeiro.
Jorge Luis Rodriguez, born on April 3, 1957, has been
appointed as a member of the Board of Directors in September
2000, having been effectively empowered on March 14, 2001.
He has been the President of Embratel since November 1999.
He also serves as Chief Marketing Officer and Senior Vice
President of WorldCom's Global Ventures and Alliances group.
Prior to Embratel, he served as Chief Executive Officer for
Avantel, the Mexican joint venture between MCI and Grupo Financiero
Banamex Accival. Mr. Rodriguez joined MCI in 1979 and held
positions in marketing analysis, pricing, and product management
and development in MCI's Business and Consumer Markets groups.
Lídio Lins Neto, born on November 4, 1963,
has served as a member of the Board of Directors since September
2000. Prior to Embratel, he worked as the controller of MCI
International Telecomunicações do Brasil Ltda.,
as well as in the Stock Exchange of Rio de Janeiro. Mr. Lins
holds a degree from the Celso Lisboa University Accountant
School.

Set forth below are brief biographical descriptions of the executive
officers who are not directors of Embratel.
José Maria Zubiria Maqueo, born on April 19, 1960,
was appointed as a member of the Board of Executive Officers in
August 2000, being effectively empowered on March 14, 2001. He has
also been the Finance Director of Embratel since July 2000. Prior
to Embratel, he worked in Pemex International, Industrial NKS S/A
and AVANTEL, the later is a telecommunication joint venture of WorldCom
in Mexico. Mr. Zubiria holds an electronic/mechanic engineering
degree.
Pedro Antonio Batista Martins, born on August 9, 1955, has
served as a member of the Board of Executive Directors since October
1999 and as Legal Counsel of Embratel since May 1999. Mr. Martins
is also a member of the Brazilian Institute of Lawyers. He previously
worked as Legal Director for Globo Cabo Holding S.A., the largest
Brazilian cable company, as well as for Texaco de Brasil Produtos
do Petróleo. Mr. Batista holds a degree from the University
of the State of Rio De Janeiro Law School.
Shamim Sultana Khan, born on September 21, 1960, has been
appointed as a member of the Board of Executive Officers since August
2000, being effectively empowered on March 14, 2001. She is also
the Vice President of WorldCom and Director of Strategic Development
and Planning at Embratel. In this capacity, she is responsible for
developing and executing Embratel's and WorldCom's Latin America
strategy, mainly through restructuring efforts, alliances, merger
and acquisition activities. Prior to this role, she was responsible
for WorldCom merger and acquisition activities in Latin America
and Asia and was the primary person responsible for the Embratel
acquisition. During her career of 14 years in the telecommunications
industry, she has held positions in financial planning, marketing
and strategic development. She has an MBA in Economics from George
Washington University in Washington, DC and an MBA from Indiana
University in Bloomington, Indiana USA.
