National and regional finalists to be known next week
The tenth version of the Embratel Press Award, in 2008, has attained a record number of applications with 1,231 articles submitted by 1,116 journalists from all over Brazil, consolidating its comprehensive and representative character.
Applications in the national categories came to 949 articles; in the Information Technology, Communication and Multimedia category totaled 66; and 221 in the regional category.
Photography was the category with the highest number of applications, totaling 272 works, followed by Socioenvironmental Responsibility with 167 works. Articles published in Newspapers and Magazines amounted to 110 applications.
Applications in the remaining categories are as follows: Cultural Journalism: 95; TV (free topic): 78; Economy: 70; Radio broadcast: 47; Investigative Journalism: 46; Sports: 45; and Cinematographic works, 19.
Articles in the five regional categories amounted to 221 applications. The Southeast region received the most participations with 68 works, followed by the South region, with 64 works; the Northeast region with 62; the Midwest region with 15; and the North region with 12.
The national and regional finalists are to be announced by late next week. The awarding ceremony will take place in the evening of October 21 in Rio de Janeiro.
The Embratel Press Award is promoted by the state and federal culture laws of the Ministry of Culture and the Rio de Janeiro Secretary of Culture. The event, sponsored by Embratel, is supported by the Rio de Janeiro Professional Journalists Union and by the Rio de Janeiro Photographic and Cinematographic Reporters Association (Arfoc).
