Caracteristics
MPLS, or MultiProtocol Label Switching, is a label-based packet routing technology which provides added security and reliability to the IP network, making it easier to manage and customize. Basically, it adds a label to the IP packets at the backbone entry (called border routers) and, from then, all the backbone routing is carried out based upon this label and no longer the IP address, thus simplifying the routing process.
MPLS enables the creation of Virtual Private Networks (VPN), assuring complete traffic insulation with the creation of label tables (used for routing) which are exclusive to each VPN.
Besides, it is possible to carry out QoS (Quality of Service), defining priorities for critical applications, providing separate treatment for traffic between different points of the VPN. QoS creates the necessary conditions for optimized use of network resources, also enabling voice and video traffic.
MPLS maintains the features of na IP network such as flexibility and scalability and removes most of the imperfections.
Topology
Rede Única Dados MPLS supports any topology (star, full meshed or mixed). The desired traffic demands are installed within Embratel's backbone without impacting the customers' solution costs.
