Longstanding customer

With over 500,000 members throughout Brazil, the health plan operator, Golden Cross Assistência Internacional de Saúde, is certainly among the first in national ranking of the sector. It was created in 1971, and has been a longstanding customer of Embratel, when it was already using Renpac services, 0800 and TopNet. Today the company, headquartered in Rio de Janeiro, and with branches in São Paulo, Recife, Porto Alegre, Brasilia, Belo Horizonte, Belém and Salvador, deals daily with hundreds of insurance brokers and health plans all over the country. To cover this huge communication requirement, Golden Cross now hires from Embratel a data network, FastNet, the 0800 and FastNet Dial Up services, plus the Sempre 21 plan.

"We have twenty connection points in our FastNet, through which we send corporate data and voice, between the seven branches and the head office", says Timotio Louback, information technology director of the company.

Efficiency

According to Louback, 0800 is another efficient relations tool: "We use it to attend the whole commercial side, brokers and, very important, new members, people interested in joining Golden Cross. FastNet Dial Up is designed for employees who access the company from their home, for instance. And all communication involving national long distance calls between the head office and branches is through FastNet Dados. We use Sempre 21 in our national long distance calls to communicate with our customers and brokers."

The Golden Cross site, hosted in the company itself, has the entire security provided by the Embratel service Business Security. The company sends in multiple connection speeds of 64 kbps to 2 Mbps. Radio and fiber optics link the head office directly to Embratel for data and advanced voice services. "At the time of privatization, Embratel adapted quickly to the new scenario. A new layout was made of the network, and costs were cut to give a more competitive edge. Embratel"s ability to adapt and give discounts per volume also encouraged our loyalty. And even more: in 1999, when we underwent major restructuring, Embratel was at our side every step of the way. A partnership toward better services, and always completely available", emphasizes Louback.
